Copper Mtn Fall Color Poker Ride
UPDATE: Thursday, September 10, 2009: The permits from ACA an USAC are in hand. Looking forward to a great weekend of racing. We've also scheduled a great band - The Northern Way. They'll be providing live music from 3:30-5 on Saturday.
OVERVIEW: Tons of great swag is on the line - you can win weekend stays at Copper, season passes or tons of great bike swag...all by playing bike path poker! How does it work and how can you register?
How it works on Saturday:
1. Register for $30 at Copper Mountain's Burning Stones Plaza on Saturday beginning at 7:30AM. With your entry you recieve a $10 gift card valid at any merchant withing Copper Mountain's Village.
2. You'll receive a list of 5 retail locations throughout Summit County that are accessible from the 55-mile rec path that connects Copper to Vail and the communities of Frisco, Breckenridge, Dillon, Silverthorne and Keystone.
3. At each location identified on your list you'll recieve a playing card.
4. Return to Copper Mountain by 5pm on Saturday with your 5 cards. Head to the 'dealer' to discard unwanted cards and draw new ones.
5. At 5:30 on Saturday after all discards and draws have been taken care of we'll start divvying out prizes - the best hands win the best prizes including 2 season passes valid at Copper and Winter Park, dozens of single day lift tickets, weekend vacation packages, sunglasses from Giro, clothing from Kuhl USA and more.
6. Stick around to watch the pro/open crits under the lights and drink a beer or two.
7. "Ties" will be broken by each player drawing one card out of the dealer's deck. The high card receives the prize with more value, the low card receives the prize next down on the list.
How it works on Sunday:
1. Register for $30 at Copper Mountain's Burning Stones Plaza on Sunday AM. Alternately, if you registered on Saturday and weren't able to make it to all the locations you can tick the remainder off your list Sunday AM. You'll also receive a meal ticket for Sunday's BBQ (open between 11am-1pm).
4. Return to Copper Mountain by 1pm on Saturday with your 5 cards. Head to the 'dealer' to discard unwanted cards and draw new ones.
5. At 1:30 on Saturday after all discards and draws have been taken care of we'll start divvying out prizes - the best hands win the best prizes including 2 season passes (one per day) valid at Copper and Winter Park, dozens of single day lift tickets, weekend vacation packages, sunglasses from Giro, clothing from Kuhl USA and more.
7. "Ties" will be broken by each player drawing one card out of the dealer's deck. The high card receives the prize with more value, the low card receives the prize next down on the list.
How long is the ride? Well, there's really no set course. You can opt for the road to get from dealer to dealer or your can take the more meandering route of the rec path. You could use Frisco as a hub, or you could utilize the new section between Summit Cove and the top of Swan Mountain. There are a few options. Best guess? Getting all 5 cards in one day will put you between 45-55 miles.
